Reiki and meditation...??

Question: What are some good Reiki and meditation instruction manuals ? What are the benefits of both? I'd like to know others experiences with Reiki and meditation...Thanks!!!
Answers:  generally if you can find a reiki master they will teach you (and it should be for free) - it's one of the principles of Reiki to keep the knowledge going -

so look for someone in your area, interview them, see what it feels like to be with them, ask them about how and if they teach - things will follow from there (as long as your comfortable, if not find someone else)
hi, i've been involved with both reiki and meditation for over twenty years .i've been teaching reiki for 12. the best single reiki book is diane stein's: essential reiki. reiki involves initiatory processes to hook you up to the reiki energy. reiki is a big help in keeping you calm and balanced. meditation works very well, too. there are many, many good books and videos, etc available, but instruction with a local group is a good way to go.what you are looking for ultimately is to detoxify yourself, calm everything down and quiet your mind, and expand your consciousness. reiki and meditation will help alot. also, check out chi gong, and tai chi. also of interest is www.sahajayoga.com and sites that discuss indigo and crystal children . good luck. if you'd like, speak with your guides and if they o.k. it contact me and i'll send you a long distance initiation to second degree level(see diane's book) to get you started. no charge. drakke1@yahoo.com.
once i was at a rave and this reiki master came up and started tellign me everything in my life was good and i can do great things and it was really cool. she also spoke german to me.
In NYC there are a few healing circles which meet regularly.
They are usually free (or for a slight donation).
You can find out what Reiki is in a demonstration.
There are magazines given out at health food stores which list activities in an urban area.
Reiki itself is based on meditation.

I should start by saying that there are thousands of different styles of reiki out there today, with many new versions literally being invented daily. Many of these new styles of reiki have little to do with reiki - being combined and mixed with a lot of new age parlance.

The reiki that we know today was started by a man named Mikao Usui, who was teaching a spiritual / philosophical system that incorportaed hand healing as part of its teachings. The system that he used was called Usui Reiki Ryoho. This IS the original version of Reiki.

This system of Reiki was based on meditation, called Gassho (meaning 'hands coming together'). As a student, one has to master Gassho before moving onto other practices.

I would have to say that if you want a good instruction manual on meditation and Reiki, try Frank Petters books. He has done much to bring the facts about Reiki to the Reiki community, dispelling many myths and half-truths that are so common in todays Reiki world.

I would recommend staying far away from D. Steins book Essential Reiki . It is grossly inaccurate when compared with historically valid research and information. Lots of stuff made up to support the new age approach to Reiki.

Be cautious of books that talk about chakras, crystals, wands, angels/spirit guides, etc.. . These are all new age things that have very little to do with Japanese Reiki, and have been introduced to Reiki within the past 10 years or so.

Hope this helps, good luck on your journey.
