I have had a thyroidectomy in 2002 and wonder about natural remedies.??
Question: I have had a thyroidectomy and been on synthroid ever since but I would like to try a natural way. I am looking at taking a super vitamin with essential minerals and Iodoral and thyro-dyne what do you think does this sound like its right I have been doing reserch on this and this what I have come up with.
Answers: No supplement is going to contain thyroid hormone which is what you need. Thyrodyne is iodine. Although iodine is used by the thyroid gland to make thyoid hormone, you don't have a thyroid gland so the iodine will be of no benefit to you
If you are going to take pills vitamins, thyrodyne etc) for your thyroid condition, why not just take the proper thyroid pills.
If you decide to stop taking synthyroid and try these alternate pills, please make sure to get your thyroid blood levels checked every three months to see if it is working. If not, go back on synthyroid.
since you have been on synthroid already you body might be use to it. It is a fine balance to balance your thyroid, and your calcium intake is also effected if you parathyroid is not working properly, I favor natural remedies more than the traditional ones but with the thyroid I would be very careful and go to a doctor who is knowledgeable in helping you switch over from the synthroid to the natural.
