I think I have a sinus infection, but I don't have the money to see a doctor...??

Question: About a week ago, my nose started to bleed while I was at work and it wouldn't stop. Finally, after a good 7 - 8 minutes, it slowed down. I knew I was getting sick. Then the next day I had a high temperature.

Now, from that day, my nose has always been congested, I snore at night (keeping my fiance up and waking me up), my head is pounding and my throat has this annoying sore in the back. My ears always want to pop. And to continue the pain, I have a very mild case of asthma and a rib cage that didn't heal quite right (which causes sharp pains every time I cough.)

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this for pity, I'm saying this as a cry for help. Last time I went to the doctors (for the rib problem and asthma [which was bronchitis]), I was charged a good amount of $7,000.

So.... Anyway good way to get rid of this nasty little disease? Oh, and my nose started to bleed for the third time this week. My mucous is also a green/yellow color, so I know it's an infection.

Thank you!
Answers: if you can afford this, buy some ECHINECEA tincture . the real thing. drop some in your throat- 3-4 times daily. in the morning have a glass of luckywarm water with lemon juice. add some vitamin C, 1000 mg. a day. take a hot bath with some vicks vapor in it. and buckley`s syrup. taste bad but really works well too. avoid dairy products except yogurt and mozza cheese.
Bad news: See a physician. The microorganism that is causing the infection has to be determined for the proper medication to be given. If you take any antibiotic, you might just be worsening the condition by sensitizing the microorganism and making them a resistant strain. Antibiotics for resistant microorganisms are more expensive. You could also spread the infection to other locations in your body and make it worse. It can go to your lungs and cause pneumonia. You could also spread the infection to others.
let me guess... you went to the emergency room when you got the $7k bill... office visits are a lot cheaper.

like someone said, see if you can find one of those minute clinics, or call around and get prices from different doctors offices. prices can vary quite a bit. you can probably get the vist and some drugs for under $100 if you shop a bit.
A sinus infection or sinusitis is the inflammation of nasal passages, which may or may not be caused by microbial such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Allergens and pollutants can also cause sinusitis. Microbial sinusitis usually follows another microbial infection, most commonly upper respiratory infections and impacted teeth.
Acute sinusitis last about eight week and is normally safe and practical to at treat home. If you experience soft tissue swelling, infection of the eye, or swelling of the eyelids consult a physician. If you experience mild personality changes, altered consciousness, visual problems, or seizures seek immediate medical attention. Treatment consist of three parts promote drainage, thin mucus, and alleviate pain/fever.
Promoting drainage is best achieved with moist heat. Drink lots of warm beverages such as tea. Mix a few tablespoons of salt in a small pot of water and bring to a simmer. Remove pot from stove. Lean over the pot with a towel over your head and pot to prevent the steam from escaping. Inhale for about ten minutes. Mentholated products such as Vicks vapor rub and Sudacare shower soothers also work well.
There are a wide variety of products on the market to thin mucus there are also some herbal options. For pharmaceuticals the two most common options are guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine. Guaifenesin is found in Robitussin, Mucinex, and prescription expectorant syrups. Pseudoephedrine is found in Claritin D available without a prescription at your pharmacy counter. The most readily available herbal products will be goldenseal, ginger, licorice, and marjoram which should be available at you local grocery store.
The best thing to alleviate pain and fever is to use Tylenol, Motrin, or the herb Feverfew. Feverfew is related to ragweed so do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to ragweed. If you have not experienced some relieve with this treatment in two weeks consult your physician.
I hope this helps. The symptoms you have do fit sinusitis; however there is a possibility there is more going on. If at any time you experience the symptoms listed above, or your symptoms get worse please contact a medical professional.
Buy a Neti pot to flush out your sinuses. Will not cure a sinus infection but will help the symptoms.
Don't know if you live anywhere that has a Walgreens or CVS but some of them have little clinics inside. I stopped at one of these clinics last week. The visit was $70 and she prescribed generic medication so it wouldn't cost as much. I dont have insurance either, so if you have insurance it'd be less.
Your local health department will be able to see you, and for very cheaply. I didn't have insurance at one time and I saw the doctor at the health department. They wanted one paystub of mine so they could determine how much to charge me. For my income it was only around $25. Herbs are better at very early sick than they are at later stages of being sick. If the doctor finds a bacteria infection and I know an upper respitory infection and broncitus count then they will give you an antibotic. WalMart if you tell them you want a generic will charge $4 dollars. If you live in an area that has a Meijer close by your really common Antibotics are FREE!
If it is a virus that you have you will not get an antibotic. Medicines like Mucinex will break up flem while Sutifed 12 hour {show your drivers licence- and get it without a perciption but behind the pharmacy counter} because the kind on the shelf is less effective. Anyway the 12 hour Suitifed will dry the mucus up.
Water is one defence that is already at your house. Set a timer. Dirnk 8 ounces of water. Wait ten mins and drink 8 more. Repeat until an hour has gone by. Take vitmen C and lots and lots of it.
I know how the no insurance goes so good luck.
Try a neti pot, I had sinus problems for years the doctors couldn't do a thing, got tired of wasting my time and the drugs nearly killed me. Since I got my neti pot I don't have any more troubles. Walgreen and several other drug stores carry them, this particular brand is called sinucleanse. It was adapted from its humble yoga roots for mass distribution by an ear, nose & throat doctor. She said her surgery rate has dropped 40% since she started recommending it.
Your sinuses are probably so swollen that the water won't pour through the first time, mine was. Just keep it in place and let it drip at first. I also found that using sudafed in the early days allowed my sinuses to open enough to at least get started with the neti pot sessions.
I have used a small amount of eucalyptus oil in the early days, but now just use sea salt and sometimes an herbal antiseptic.
If it is a sinus infection you need antibiotics.
