After a root canal, how quickly should I get a crown??
Question: I got a root canal in May. The dentists finished everything, but I never got a crown put in. Apparently everything is sealed up and I haven't had any problems. Do I still need to get one and should I try to get it as soon as possible?
Answers: The crown should be done at least within the year of having the root canal. The tooth has lost its blood supply so it will get brittle, unless you want to eat the cost of the root canal when the tooth breaks causing you to have it extracted or have more of an expense ie: crown lengthening , post & core and build up plus the cost of the crown!!! Good Luck
if the tooth in which the root canal filling was done is sound,i mean is not much destructed than u can go for a permanent filling.but if its of grossly decayed nature its better to go in for a crown.crowns r costly but they r worth their cost.normally a root canal treated tooth is like a egg shell which can easily fracture,so its better to go oin for a crown...
Ok, although this is not what I recommend I can understand that crowns are a bit pricey. I had a root canal down on my bottom left molar almost 2 years ago with no crown and its fine, no pain. I do intend to get a crown on it, but with their prices I had to wait and save. You do have to be careful because overtime your tooth will get weak, but you can wait for a long period of time if that is what you are wanting to know. The temp. filling does fall out over time, mine did about 6 months ago. If you are trying to keep the temp. filling in for as long as possible then avoid anything gummy or sticky, that includes bread because when you eat it it gets moist and will stick. Be gentle but affective while brushing over it too.
