Is waiting 3 weeks too long without retainers??
Question: Well, my dad doesn't want to spend a bomb on fixing my retainers (the wire kinda detached) here in Australia, so he is bringing it somewhere else overseas (my homeland) to get it fix since he is going back for a little while.
1. Australia is known to have the world's most expensive dentistry. (about 300$ just for a piece of custom made silicon and metal wires)
2. My dad and mom cannot be convienced to get new ones for me.
3. It has been 2 weeks so far and my teeth has moved about 1mm, my 2 front upper teeth are overlapping already (it's considered alot)
4. I'm a very paranoid person. I've been trying to use the pliers, but it doesn't work. I'M FREAKING WORRIED!
So, is there like a method for me to refrain it from moving any further? I don't wanna wear braces again!
Please give me some kinda of comfort....
Answers: I live in New Zealand and I've had braces twice. You really need your retainer. 3 weeks is way too long. If I don't wear my plate every night I feel that my teeth have moved. When you put your plate back in it'll feel strange and may not work properly.
Tell your parents if you don't get your retainer fixed then you will most likely need braces again which will cost A LOT more than it'll cost to get your retainer fixed.
My orthadontist is really good. I broke my plate and my Mum took it in and she made me a new one for free. If I need to see her I never have to pay anything more. The first time I got braces I was 12. They helped a lot, but not enough. I paid $500 for them. I went back and told her that I wasn't really happy with my teeth because I had gaps. Last year I had to wear braces again. She didn't charge anything more. All I've had to pay was the $500.
Try and convince your parents, it's going to save them a lot of money in the long run.

I can't really comment as i live in England, im so glad i do because all health care is free here if you're under the age of 18 or in full time education!
I can understand why you are paranoid as your teeth are already moving back which is a bad thing but everything will be OK, if your dad is at least going to try and get it fixed then you should maybe chill out a little bit!
Everythings going to be cool, im sure you will get it fixed and be back on the way to getting perfect teeth!
Best of luck
Retainers are custom made and custom fitted. If your teeth have moved, then it won't fit when your dad decides to bring it home, repaired or not. You need to go to a dentist in Australia and have an Essix retainer made. It looks like an Invisalign aligner tray. It is cheaper than a regular retainer, but will prevent your teeth from moving anymore.
If they've already moved 1mm, I doubt they'll move any further in three weeks. I never wore my retainer after my braces came off and my teeth have only moved about 2mm in total. That was about two years ago. My advice to you is to stay away from the pliers and just try and be patient!
