Driving while manic??

Question: While in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, often times I will go driving and find myself miles away from my original destination with no clue how I got there. My mind is racing from thought to thought so quickly that the mechanics of driving never even register in my conscious mind. It is quite disturbing - like my subconscience is on auto-pilot to nowhere in particular. Do any other bipolars have this occur to you?
Answers: This is a very dangerous habit. Are you on lithium? Take your medicine regularly.
I would have a mild form of that. I would get panic attacks while driving because I was so worried that my thoughts were going too fast. Are you on meds? If not, you should be. The meds help alot with that.
oh, BTW, I'm not bi polar. I was offically diagnosed as someone with bi polar symptoms. as if there is a difference!!!
Please don't drive when your manic. I have a schitzophrenic friend who drove when she was having mental problems and got into an accident and a criminal conviction because of her illness.
oh yeah lol it feels awesome. haven't done that in years though :( I use to drive erratically also speeding etc. i don't look like the type of person who would do that. once i went to the house my grandma died in which was a state and 8 hours away. never been there before never met her don't know why just drove. on the spur of the moment and the start of a blizzard a few years back. i was amazed i found it just knew the street. mania does funny things to ya. makes your feel invincible.
sheez...another thing that makes me think I might be BP. I saw this ad in a magazine the other day that said something like it might be more than depression that completely described me and kinda freaked me out.

So, if I fall into that category (ick), then yes, I do that too.

Good luck with that
