My son has tourettes syndrome and I have a question??

Question: My son has had tourettes since he was real young, but has had the blessing of being smart and up in the top of his class.
But...
He always talks about not being able to think quickly on tests and homework. He says it takes him twice as long to finish a test then other students, although he does get around the same grades as them. He tells me that he doesn't take a long time because hes worried about getting a wrong answer and he wants to make sure its right, he just tells me he has to focus more and think more than others. I'm thinking that maybe, its because of his tourettes. Could this be true?
I need to know because this is costing him when it comes to getting into college.
Answers: I just watched Medical Mysteries a few weeks ago and they had two guys with tourettes on it. They had a special procedure done to their brain and now neither one of them have any twitches and can live normal lives. It was pretty fascinating. I don't know how bad the symptoms have to be before they can do the procedure, but it would be something to investigate for your son's sake. Good Luck!
I have found that most kids with TS are really smart, but it is difficult to translate this to paper! My son can make stop-motion animation movies on his iMac, but can't write legibly! He plays chess and scores high on IQ tests, but his spelling stinks! Go figure. He was placed in special ed, and this allowed him more time for tests, which helps a lot. I don't know what the policy(s) are for college exams, but you might check out the latest developments in the IDEA which include Tourettes.

It basically means that your son cannot be discriminated against because of his TS. This might help!

My son also has great difficulty in concentrating and processing. He IS smart and he CAN learn, it simply just takes longer.

Best wishes.
it could be because of his tourettes but i know that alot of children who have tourettes also have a codiagnosis of add or adhd, or a disorn the autistic spectrum...but then again some people are just perfectionists and want to get everthing right...im 20 and in college and my whole life i have been the last one to finish a test but i have gotten an A or b average on every test. i am also very thorough and i want to make sure that every possible point i can get...i do get... there is nothing wrong with this. if u are concerned though u should speak to a doctor, or go on a tourettes website and read about it.

Attention Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity (ADD or ADHD)occurs in many people with TS. Children may show signs of hyperactivity before TS symptoms appear. Indications of ADHD may include: difficulty with concentration; failing to finish what is started; not listening; being easily distracted; often acting before thinking; shifting constantly from one activity to another; needing a great deal of supervision; and general fidgeting. Adults too may exhibit signs of ADHD such as overly impulsive behavior and concentration difficulties and the need to move constantly. ADD without hyperactivity includes all of the above symptoms except for the high level of activity. As children with ADHD mature, the need to move is more likely to be expressed by restless, fidgety behavior. Difficulties with concentration and poor impulse control persist.

It could possibly be because of his tourettes or maybe because he is worried about failing
