I suffer from Obssessive Compulsive Compulsive Disorder, I am on medication for it??
Question: but how do I get rid of the thoughts quicker? I am seeing a psychiatrist, but I need to know how to get rid of the thoughts quickly? I desperately need advice so please help.
Answers: Why do you feel that you have to get rid of these thoughts quickly? Could this be part of your illness? I have read that ocd events can be allot like when we were kids in school waiting for the school bell to ring as we watched the clock trying to will it to go faster, of course those who didn't watch the clock had less stress over it. In other words if you focus on something else in your life the things that are driving you mad will seem uniportant or at least less. If you are cleaning your hands in the sink, and you can't stop, try to force the funny scenes from a movie you like into your thoughts and it may help you to reach for the towel. I wish you well, and give yourself time to be better. Learn all you can about your condition.
When dealing with mental disorders, do not rush things. This is probably a symptom of your disorder. You may be on this medication for the rest of your life so, you need to let it wor to it's full potential. Your doctor will help you through your symptoms and perscribe more or additional medicine if needed. After the medicine takes its course, then address the other symptoms.
meditation may help a little in the mean time.
im not sure, but i think you shouldn't get mad at yourself everytime you think obcessive compulsive disorder thoughts. the part where you want to stay neat is ok and my conslers have it (from camp) and they are fine, but they have minor cases. also, it would have helped if you had told us exactly what is a result besides being overly neat or something. and my conslers said they have it, im not sure because the liked to keep neat and 1 of them said that she folded cloths in her spare time. i know this probably isn't what you want to hear but its that im able to do because i dont fully know about your conditions.
a psychiatrist is a good place to start but it sounds like you may benefit from some cognitive behavioral therapy...find a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in your area...perhaps your psychiatrist can recommend one. Unfortunately, it is very uncommon to find a psychiatrist who does therapy AND medication management...one typically has to go to two different people to get treated. Good luck and remember...9:48pm of 02/01/06 will NOT feel like 9:48pm of 02/02/06. Take things slowly...if it is 9:48pm, your only job is to get to 10:00pm. Things will get better, you have already taken a big step in the right direction...and remember, without progress there can be no setbacks...setbacks are simply part of the process.
1st line of treatment for OCD is a group of antidepressants called SSRIs.
