How to I come off effexor xr without going down from 75 - 37.5mg??
Question: How do I come off my effexor xr without buying a new box of 37.5mg? I still have about 2 months supply of 75mg, I can't justify going and getting a box of 37.5mg ones. I really want to come off them quickly without the side effects. Can I cut them in half without losing all the little beads?! (I wish I could!)
Answers: If you take them more than once a day, take one less dose a day until you're down to one dose a day. Do this every 5-7 days. Then take the one dose every other day for about 5-7 days; then every two days, every three days, and so on. If you've been taking them a long time, weaning slowly is the best way to do it. I once had an acquaintance who went off anti-depressants cold turkey and the myelin sheath on her nerves was sloughed off, creating intense nerve pain. Be careful.
Nope. They are extended release. Personally, you're nuts to try.
For many, Effexor has the worst withdrawals of all the antidepressants. Doctors should warn ppl about that but they usually don't. Buying that bottle of 37.5mg is money well spent. In fact, you may have to go 37.5mg every other day as well to get off w/o bad side effects. Brain zaps just aren't fun at all.
extended release, you can not. It has to do how they are released. Ask the doctor for samples. That is what they gave me. hang on to the 75mg. because I had to go back once because of problems in my life then went back down again
i think i'm gonna have to go off of effexor xr too. you can't obvioiusly cut these in half so there is no way unless you buy the 37.5. i'm just going to stop taking them when i see my dr. next. i stopped taking other drugs and had no problem. i know this one is a little worse. but i feel you'll struggle maybe for a week but after that you should feel ok.
Unfortuantley this isone of those drugs you cant and dont want to come off of quickly. This drug has had severe withdrawl symptoms and you can find out alot about it by typing in effexor xr withdrawl into the yahoo search engine. Cutting the pill is not an option. I would definitley go speak with your doctor if you want to get off this drug. He can wean you off slowly but you may still have the associated withdrawl symptoms. Do not under any curcumstances go off this drug cold turkey.
