How many seconds of looking at a welding arc does it take to damage your eyes.??
Question: I have seen it direectly for just a split second accidently once or twice. caould this have damaged my eyes? I had no symptoms of flash burns eg. tearing or irritation
Answers: why don't you go out and count and come back and tell me.
I have had flash burn and many good instant tans and I will first say that I have 20/20 vision. I have had steel bits in my eye and have had the rust rings drilled out, and I have had flash burn on more than one occasion. ( Flash burn is accually blisters than form on your eye after being exposed to the ultraviolet light that welding produces. It can also be obtained by halogen lights, or the glare off of water or snow by the sun. ((This was why many of the 10,000 spartans never made it home after their trek with Xenophon and the battle of Cunaxa)) b/c of temporary blindness caused from flash burn by the snow glare.)
BUT permanent damage, I do not believe you are in danger unless you do not wear safety glasses( which do block the uv rays) or just decide to be careless. With a little effort, a safe method will always be achieved.
No. Think about glancing at the sun. The sun is way worse for your eyes and if you glance at it it won't damage your eyes. Don't even worry about it. It would probably take at least 20 seconds for even minimal damage.
in 35 years of welding i have never known anyone suffer permanent damage to their eyes from welding.its the grinding that does the damage.its not possible to say how many seconds it takes .some people get a tan quickly some dont.depends on the individual.if your eyes get sore dont waste money on eye drops.boil up some cloves and use that water to dab your eyes.
