Where can i find an optician that with test my eyes at home??
Question: i'm agrophobic and on the nhs
thankyou xxx
Answers: There are a few companies dedicated to providing a 'domicillary' service, meaning they come to your home with special equipment to do a full sight test on you. They can also sort you out with glasses if you need them. If you genuinely can't leave your home for medical reasons (usually problems with mobility but as long as your GP has agreed you can't leave your house unaided), the service is free.
Some independent Opticians do this on a limited basis, but your best bet is a company called 'The Outside Clinic', who operate nationwide. Their website is http://www.outsideclinic.com/
Hope this helps.
I've met a few opricians who offer this service to patients but in my experience I've only saw it for people with severe physical disabilities.
It is worth spending some time on the phone calling local opticians to see if there is someone who is willing to come to your home. Any eye test at home will be less accurate than one done on their own premises though as they can only carry very basic equipment.
You may or may not be charged more for this service.
I have never known the NHS cover the costs of a home opticians visit.
They advertise this service on TV
good luck
Contact the nursing homes in your area. Many of them have optometrists who come in to do eye exams for the residents. They have portable equipment, and take most insurance plans.
Have you rang your nearest optician and asked them
I think you would have a problem finding one. Their equipment is to big, heavy and bulky to take to a home appointment
