My vision... IMPROVED..Help??

Question: I am 21 years old and about 7 months ago I had decided to completely stop wearing my glasses, I was pretty stressed out and quit a job and just decided to take a break from everything...

anyways at that point my glasses perscription was -2.50 on both eyes... things are now much better and I am feeling pretty good again, A few days ago I decided I want to see clearly again so I put on my glasses but they felt WAY too strong.. everything was ridicously clear and it was hard to focus on anything remotely close to my face... 7 months ago the same glasses started to feel weak and I was soon going to go for another perscription change

anyways
I went to my optometrist and he said my vision is now -1.75! what happened? I have to buy a new pair of glasses now because he said my vision got better by -.75

He didn't really give me an answer I was satisfied with in terms of why its happened so if there are any eyecare specialists here Please HELP ME OUT AND EXPLAIN:)

thanks!
Answers: Frequently when we go get new glasses, we have a baseline tone of the muscles that control the power of the lens. With 'stress', that tone can be increased. But during a refraction, usually after the final Rx is found, they'll add extra power to blur the letters, which causes you to relax the accommodation. After a few minutes, which most don't wait, the plus over power is slowly reduced till you can see the letters clearly.

If that's not done, you'll seem to get more and more minus power. Then if you don't use your Rx for awhile, you will relax the accommodation and go back towards the regular tone of your eye. The difference you noted was -0.75 but it can be worse.

There's no magic to this, just an increased tone of the muscle, which causes the tension on the zonular fibers that control the lens focus. In children they'll cycloplege the muscles with drops so the kids can't accommodate. Might try this the next time you get your refraction. That way you'll have NO tone.
I don't know how that happened but consider yourself lucky!
Anybody's refractive error can change at anytime.

Stress may have been a factor in your particular case. Stress can cause the lens of the eye to spasm slightly which could cause an apparent increase in myopia (called pseudomyopia). Now that you are more relaxed, the spasm is relaxed too. Changes of 0.50D to 1.00D are not unusual with spasm of the lens.

From page 9 of the link below
c. Pseudomyopia
Pseudomyopia is generally encountered in younger patients performing excessive close work. Sustained or excessive near demands result in hypertonicity of the ciliary body such that an emmetropic or slightly hyperopic patient clinically appears to be myopic or a myopic patient appears to be more so. In psychogenic accommodative spasm, psychological influences can produce spasm of the near reflex.
