Has any one tried Mirena birth control??
Question: I am usualy not real keen on hormonal birth control, but got a flyer for Mirena and was wondering if any has tried it and if so, what are the pros and cons...
It says that woman don't gain weight like they might on the pill... (which is good)
and that a lot of women stop having a period (which I am not that cool with, it has a purpose, and what if I do end up pregnant ..it would take too long to find out).
any help would be GREAT!
Answers: I had the mirena put in only a few days ago, and I LOVE IT!!! I had a little cramping and spotting day one, but now I feel great. For me it was the right choice, I am terrible at remebering the pill, the shot made me bleed non-stop, and the patch just didn't stay in place. With the mirena most doctors want you to schedule appointments at least every 4 weeks with them, just to make sure it is still in place and that everything is going smoothy. Another thing about the mirena most doctors want you to have had at least one child, I know too because my sister wanted to get on it and she wasn't approved because of that reason. The best source of info on Mirena is your doctor, they will be able to tell you if it would be a smart choice cuz they will know your health history.
I have Mirena. I do have a light period but not all the time. It is the most effective reversible birth control there is only sterilization is better.
You can feel for the strings to be sure it is in place. If not having a period each month makes you nervous I would not recommend it for you because you'd be paranoid all the time.
I had it put in after I had my son in Dec. I have lost 25lbs since then. The hormones are more localized then other birth controls and it's progesterone only.
The only down side I had is that there was spotting for about 6 weeks after insertion.
The pros are that it's super effective, you don't have to remember something for 5 years, lighter/no periods, no weight gain.
